The Great Titan Looms…
Adding depth to a fictional world through design.
In the world of my game, colossal titans lay dormant throughout the landscape... Clover, a local researcher who studies these relics, hopes he can uncover the truth behind these mysterious husks
In terms of my process when tackling this idea, I first looked at what I wanted to achieve. The main goal here was to add a sense of a rich history, long forgotten. I studied the works of Hayao Miyazaki and Yoji Takeshige to gain an understanding as to how they approach their work at Studio Ghibli.
Their work is filled with such imagination, every facet of the worlds they craft are carefully put together, leading to some of the most cohesive fictional works ever made.
Taking their approaches into account, I got to work on the history of my fictional world, and how that might effect the designs of the present day characters. This eventually lead to designing Clover.
Why a big robot?
…For a Sense of Scale.
Expanding Ideas Means Expanding Design Opportunities.
By creating this imaginary history, I now have even more room to create interesting ideas. Clover was born from this experimentation. As a researcher and relic fanatic, he’s dressed appropriately.
Influenced by the work of both Studio Ghibli and Moomin creator: Tove Jansson, Clover is cloaked in a green and orange shawl. This is decorated with some kind of ancient motif, which is a reoccurring pattern found in the architecture of the ruins of old.
